Richmond, Va. (June 21, 2021) – The Virginia Mental Health Access Program (VMAP), a statewide initiative that helps health care providers take better care of children and adolescents with mental health conditions, announced its official partnership with Unite Us, a technology company that builds coordinated care networks of health and social service providers.
“By becoming a part of the Unite Virginia network, VMAP is able to increase access to necessary mental health care services for Virginia providers and their pediatric patients,” said Ally Singer Wright, VMAP Program Director. “The Unite Us Platform is a huge step towards meeting VMAP’s mission of helping health care providers take better care of children and adolescents with mental health conditions. We are so excited to be a part of this important program and look forward to seeing the Unite Virginia network support not only providers using VMAP, but also the greater Virginia healthcare community at large.”
The Unite Us infrastructure provides both a person-centered care coordination platform, and a hands-on community engagement process. Unite Us works directly with communities to ensure services are seamlessly delivered to the people who need them most. Through VMAP’s partnership with Unite Us, behavioral health providers who serve children and adolescents will be able to join the Unite Virginia network at no cost to the provider, making them accessible to families and providers seeking care.
“Unite Us shares VMAP’s commitment to providing better care to children and adolescents who need mental health resources, especially in response to the pandemic’s impact on their wellness. This partnership prioritizes mental health as we build the Unite Virginia network, while expanding access to other resources that support children and their families,” says Kathleen Banfield, Unite Us State Director in Virginia. “We are honored to work alongside VMAP as we collectively work to build better health for all Virginians across the state.”
This unique partnership will give VMAP a new opportunity to ensure primary care providers caring for children and adolescents have a large network of providers and resources that is easily accessible no matter where they are located in Virginia.
VMAP announced at its statewide launch in May 2021 that it had received over 1,000 calls to its Child Psychiatry/Psychology Consult Line; This partnership will help VMAP continue its work towards expanding mental health care access for children and adolescents across the state. This partnership is providing a necessary opportunity to shine a light on the lack of pediatric mental health resources across Virginia. VMAP and Unite Us look forward to the difference this partnership can make for the entire Commonwealth.
