Milestones that made us who we are today.
2025
- 16% of Virginia primary care clinicians (PCCs) actively use VMAP services.
- Over 13,000 consultation calls completed, supporting care for 11,000 pediatric patients statewide.
- 2,298 clinicians trained through VMAP’s education and workforce development efforts.
- VMAP for Moms+ launched and expanded, with dedicated staff roles added to support statewide maternal mental health access.
- VMAP launched a school mental health initiative, expanding support for K–12 schools and providers.
- Early Childhood Mental Health education expanded, including the introduction of STAT™ autism diagnosis training for PCCs.
2024
- VMAP Line regional hubs are fully staffed statewide.
- VMAP begins work on Moms+ perinatal expansion.
- The VMAP Line hits 7,000 calls.
- The VMAP Line’s early childhood extension goes live – “Press 6 for Under 6”.
- VMAP receives 3.9 million in state funding for its early childhood and perinatal expansion programs.
- First Moms+ education program piloted.
- Moms+ Line goes live.
2023
- VMAP pilots Emergency Department (ED) pediatric mental health trainings for ED providers.
- VMAP launches additional early childhood specialized ECHOs.
- VMAP adds early childhood specialists to VMAP Line.
- The VMAP Line hits 6,000 calls.
- VMAP receives $3.9M from the Virginia General Assembly to launch a new perinatal program and continue early childhood expansion.
- VMAP pilots Triple P program as part of early childhood expansion.
2022
- VMAP receives $2.4M from the Virginia General Assembly to expand into early childhood.
- VMAP initiates first specialized ECHO on ages 0-5.
- The VMAP Line hits 2,000 calls.
- VMAP regional hub services initiated in its western region out of UVA and Centra.
- VMAP launches Recognized Provider Badge for VMAP-trained providers.
2021
- VMAP initiates regional hub services in its eastern region out of Children’s Hospital of the King’s Daughters (CHKD).
- The VMAP Line hits 1,000 calls.
- VMAP regional hub services initiated in its southwest region out of Mt. Rogers CSB.
- VMAP regional hub services initiated in its central region out of the Children’s Hospital of Richmond at VCU.
2020
- MSVF named VMAP program administrator by DBHDS.
- Virginia Governor’s budget includes $4.22M to fund VMAP implementation statewide. Shortly after, funding frozen due to COVID-19.
- VMAP increases VMAP Line psychiatry consultation coverage to 40 hours/week and introduces an online consultation request process.
- First regional hub services initiated in VMAP’s northern region out of Inova and Children’s National Hospital (CNH), including care navigation and licensed mental health professionals (LMHPs) to assist with VMAP Line consultations with PCPs.
- VMAP funding restored during Virginia Special Session, allowing VMAP to continue expanding statewide.
2019
- Governor’s budget includes $1.23M for VMAP, which supports implementing services in northern and eastern Virginia.
- The VMAP Line opens with psychiatry consultations available statewide 32 hours per week.
2018
- VMAP established through HRSA grant awarded to VDH in partnership with the Virginia Chapter, AAP.
- VMAP holds first Stakeholder meeting.
