Perinatal Education for Advanced Clinical Expertise (PEACE)

Perinatal Education for Advanced Clinical Expertise (PEACE) is a 2-day, 16-hour perinatal mental health education program for Virginia prescribers who care for pregnant/postpartum people and their children. It was developed by leading experts in the field and is presented in partnership with Postpartum Support Virginia.

PEACE participants will build on their abilities to:

Identify

perinatal mental health disorders, including major depressive disorder, anxiety disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder, psychosis, and bipolar disorders during the perinatal time.

Consider

the impact of additional diagnoses such as trauma-related disorders, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, eating disorders, and substance use disorders on the treatment of PMADs.

Manage

psychopharmacology during pre-conception, pregnancy, and postpartum, including selecting medications, monitoring responses, and maintaining care.

Create

and implement a treatment plan by mobilizing existing resources such as family members and community-based services, including support for infants and older children.

Adopt

trauma-informed practices to improve patient care, including provider self-care.
